Kristen Benson About

I am a Painter/maker with 15 years experience As a …

Gallerist. As a fourth generation northern Californian, I am drawn to the land and light of this wild place. Having learned to walk in the local woods, I still wander, to be immersed in the larger frame of mind and physical body present and to perceive/receive that which is. From this echo which resonates, I paint to (create) play with the patterns, rhythms, palettes, and luminosity that pull me. My process investigates interconnection and harmony on a physical and temporal plane. Using an active brushstroke that expresses my hand and sense of mark making, I work to communicate the quality of what is felt, known, and unknown, intrinsic and vital. My art reflects an attention to the natural world and informs my decisions in the extemporaneous process, creating a calm but dynamic surface that invites the viewer in to explore.

I have studied the art of Aikido for over 35 years. This practice has created a knowing of connective spirit, balance, and energy that impassions my work in abstract form.
